RO DBT Training

One Day Introduction to Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy Workshop

Self-control, the ability to inhibit competing urges, impulses, or behaviors is highly valued by most societies. However, excessive self-control has been linked to social isolation, aloof interpersonal functioning, maladaptive perfectionism, constricted emotional expressions, and difficult-to-treat mental health problems, such as anorexia nervosa, obsessive compulsive personality disorder and refractory depression. The aim of this workshop is to introduce clinicians to the theoretical foundations and new skills underlying Radically Open-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) for disorders of overcontrol. Karyn Hall, Ph.D., a certified RO DBT supervisor, is the presenter.

Objectives

After completing this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain a new biosocial theory for OC
  • Describe a novel treatment mechanism positing open expression = trust = social connectedness
  • List and define at least 3 new RODBT treatment strategies to enhance self-enquiry and flexible responding
  • List and define the 4 core deficits of Overcontrol
  • Describe the RODBT treatment structure
  • Describe the RODBT treatment hierarchy
  • Articulate the differences between RODBT and Standard DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training

Comprehensive DBT™ Training

DBT has four primary modes of treatment delivery. In this training you will learn how each mode of treatment delivery is delivered for the most effective results. Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training includes how to do DBT individual therapy, lead skills groups, provide coaching, and team consultation for the therapist. To provide Dialectical Behavior Therapy as it was developed by treatment creator Dr. Marsha Linehan.

Online Training in DBT Skills

DBTWise will be offering an online workshop in Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills classes. Learn to lead a skills class, learn the four modules of skills, and the structure of the skills class. This workshop will be streamed via the internet and will be offered in January.  Dates to be announced.

Supervision in Radically Open DBT

Dr. Karyn Hall is a certified supervisor for RO DBT, one of three in America. She offers supervision and microanalytic supervision for groups or individuals who have completed intensive training in RO DBT.

 

RO DBT Expert-Led Team Consultation

Karyn Hall, Ph.D. is offering RO DBT Expert-Led Team consultation on the RO DBT Blended Learning website.

 

DBT Supervision/Consultation

Invite a DBT-certified clinician to join your consultation team. The clinician can either review tapes of sessions, provide case consultation, discuss specific interventions/strategies or help you develop your consultation team.

If you are interested in pursuing adherence or certification in DBT or would like consultation on a particular issue or in working with a particular client, we can schedule supervision sessions for groups or individuals. Karyn and Kelly are both certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification. Supervision can be arranged via HIPAA compliant Zoom for you or your team.

Dr. Karyn Hall

Director & Founder

 

Dr. Karyn Hall is the director and founder of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Center in Houston, TX. She is a certified RO DBT trainer and supervisor and is certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification as a DBT therapist. A psychologist and coach, she is also certified in prolonged exposure therapy. She has trained and been a speaker both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Hall blogs for Psychology Today and PsychCentral and is the author of Mindfulness Exercises for DBT Therapists, SAVVY, and The Emotionally Sensitive Person. She is the co-author of The Power of Validation. In her practice she specializes with disorders of under control (Borderline Personality Disorder) and over control (anorexia, chronic anxiety, chronic depression). She is currently working on clinical research of over controlled disorders.

In her leisure time she loves to cook for friends and spoil her two Bolognese dogs Atlas and Plato.

Kelly Guynes

LCSW-SSenior Trainer

 

Kelly Guynes LCSW-S is the Clinical Director of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Center in Houston, Texas. She is certified by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification as a DBT therapist and intensively trained in Radically Open DBT. In her clinical practice she works with adolescents, adults, families and couples with disorders of under-control and over-control. In addition to her clinical practice, Kelly consults and provides trainings with clinicians, schools, residential programs and hospitals on effective implementation of DBT.

Kelly serves on the Board for the National Educational Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEA-BPD) and volunteers as a family connections class leader. She also provides supervision to social workers obtaining their clinical licensure.

For fun Kelly enjoys traveling, spending time in nature, cooking and snuggling with her Rhodesian ridgeback, Atlas.

DBTWise is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continued education for psychologists. DBTWise maintains responsibility for this program and content.

 

DBTWise is approved by the Texas State Board of Social Workers to offer continuing education programs.

 

DBTWise, #1722, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.

 

DBTWise maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval Period: 7/18/2019 – 7/18/2020. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits.
